The best time to turn to LED - fluorescent lights are about to be disabled

In order to address climate change and hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment, mercury containing and inefficient lighting fixtures will be banned throughout the European Union this year. For different product groups, it is important to remember three dates, starting from the end of February 2023 and the last one in September 2023. The most affected by this ban is fluorescent lamps. Therefore, it is time to shift towards energy-saving and future oriented LED technology.

According to the European Commission's Ecological Design Regulation 2019/2020 (Single Lighting Regulation SLR) and the revised EU ROHS Directive 2011/65/EU, exceptions to the use of mercury in light sources have been restricted, and several lighting products may no longer be sold in the EU market this year. Starting from February 25, 2023, this applies to circular T5 fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLni) with plug-in bases. Linear T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps will be launched on August 25th, while halogen lamps (G4, GY6.35, G9) will be launched on September 1st.
